The Brüggenhütte is a popular meeting place and a popular destination with a lovely beer garden. It is located directly on the Aa River and on the border with Dinxperlo, Netherlands. The hotel is open daily, the restaurant only on weekends or by appointment. Restaurant: Opening hours Fri + Sat 5 pm - 11 pm and Sun 10 am - 11 pm. HISTORY: From the mid-18th century, a customs post was located at this site at the Aa Dam. All iron ore deliveries outside of the "Herrlichkeit Anholt" (Herrlichkeit Anholt), for example, to the Liedern St. Michaelis Ironworks, as well as the return deliveries of pig iron, were subject to customs clearance. The so-called bog iron ore was found in large quantities in the fields in our area as rocks. This was the era of foundries, including the Isselburger Ironworks (around 1794).

I honestly don't see it as a highlight for road bikers. Yes, it's always nice to cruise across the Rhine on a small ferry, and it's a short distance to the next bridge, but... I avoid taking the ferry with my road bike for two reasons: 1) The ferry is only open on certain days, even when excursions are expected. However, these very excursionists can sometimes lead to unpredictably long waits. I once stood in line here for over an hour. It's rather inconvenient if you don't need a break. 2) On the ferry itself, you're supposed to park your bike in a "Felgenbrecher" bike rack (see photos). Not something you'd want to do with expensive wheels. We've crossed here several times on the Hase Pino step tandem, and it was really nice. It's quite tight with the tandem, but it's manageable, and since the bike obviously doesn't fit in the Felgenbrecher, we've always been assigned a special spot. But I don't know if the ferry staff would be happy if a horde of racing cyclists all wanted special spots for their carbon rims...

This two-story gatehouse was located in front of the former Werth moated castle (site: raised hill - today the Church of St. Peter and Paul) and was part of the city fortifications. However, nothing of the former city wall remains today; only this gatehouse remains. It is believed to have been built in the 16th century. This building was already referred to as the "Rathaus" (town hall) on a map from 1768. It has a red tiled roof with a small ridge turret, and the pointed gable walls are decorated with corner battlements. It forms the end of the small market square/forecourt between Deichstraße and Binnenstraße. It was severely damaged in World War II and subsequently rebuilt. After its final restoration in the early 1960s, the Werth City Council met in the meeting room once a month until 1975. Following the municipal reorganization in early 1975, Werth lost its independence and became a district of the city of Isselburg. Later, Werth clubs and associations used the hall, and most recently, an engineering firm. (Source: Werth Local History Society) Since 2011, the historic town hall has been privately owned and completely restored by the owner. It can be rented for private or business events, conferences, and celebrations, such as civil weddings. Rentals and questions about the space can be directed to: info@torhaus-burg-werth.de

There used to be a small, separate parking lot here. But now two larger seating areas have been set up, so parking there is no longer appropriate.
