The Elfenstein is a striking quartzite cliff above Bad Harzberg. It is an attractive and relatively easy-to-reach hiking destination. The rock formation can be climbed with the help of a staircase. From the top, there is a good view of the districts of Bündheim and Schlewecke, as well as the adjoining northern Harz foothills. The Harly ridge and the Wöltingerode monastery are among the sights. Parking is free. The Wildcat Experience Center is always worth a visit. You can observe the animals there in any season and in any weather. There's always something new to discover. The €4 entrance fee is quite reasonable and is primarily used for feeding the animals. It's open daily except Mondays. In summer, it's open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and in winter until 4:00 PM. Last entry is half an hour before closing time. Feeding takes place at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and also at 5:00 PM in the summer. A unique experience all about the European wildcat in our natural environment.

A lovely short loop, with a great panorama from the Elfenstein cliff (a place of power) and along the Herrenweg trail. The lower Herrenweg is almost completely overgrown, which is a shame, as the path is fantastic. It should be used more often. (HWN 120). Total distance approximately 3.5 km.
