As a local and a cyclist, I can confirm that the scenery is magnificent and the small roads are ideal for cycling, provided you avoid the peak period from July 15th to August 15th. However, I regret that you only mention the village of Le Rozier in the route descriptions, while the photos are mostly of Peyreleau, a superb, unspoiled village, away from the traffic of the gorges, which it faces on the other side of the Jonte River! Note: Le Rozier is in Lozère, while Peyreleau is in Aveyron.

Many family-friendly routes pass by or are close to interesting landmarks. For instance, the Pont d'Arc loop takes you through the impressive Ardèche Gorges, where you can see the natural arch of Pont d'Arc. The region also features fascinating caves like Grotte Chauvet 2 and charming villages such as Sainte-Enimie.
The Massif Central is beautiful throughout the warmer months. Spring (April-June) offers lush greenery and wildflowers, while summer (July-August) provides warm weather ideal for combining hikes with water activities in the gorges or lakes. Autumn (September-October) brings stunning fall foliage. Summer can be popular, so consider spring or early autumn for a quieter experience.
Many trails in the Massif Central are dog-friendly, but it's always best to check specific regulations for regional parks or nature reserves. Generally, dogs are welcome on a leash. The varied terrain means your canine companion will enjoy the diverse smells and sights, from forest paths to open plateaus. Always carry water for your dog, especially on longer routes.

Many popular trailheads, especially those near lakes or villages, offer dedicated parking areas. In more frequented spots, you'll often find amenities like cafes, restaurants, or picnic spots. Absolutely. While many GR (Grande Randonnée) trails are multi-day routes, specific sections can be enjoyed as family-friendly day hikes. For instance, parts of the GR 30 (Tour des Lacs d'Auvergne) or GR 400 (Tour des Volcans du Cantal) offer accessible segments that showcase the region's volcanic lakes and peaks without committing to the full long-distance trek. Look for shorter, well-marked loops that intersect with these larger trails.
Generally, no specific permits are required for day hiking on public trails in the Massif Central. However, if you plan to enter certain protected natural reserves or engage in specific activities, it's always wise to check with the local tourist office or park authority for any particular regulations or restrictions that might apply.
