Near Štanjel lies the Austro-Hungarian military cemetery, where Austro-Hungarian soldiers and Russian prisoners of war who died in the nearby military hospital in Štanjel Castle and the auxiliary hospital facilities in the area are buried. Architect Joseph Ulrich had already drawn up a plan for the architectural arrangement of the cemetery during the Isonzo Front, which he completed with a magnificent temple, but the work was not completed until 1918. According to the Italian authorities, who led the excavation of military cemeteries in the 1930s, 1,315 soldiers are buried here.

It's cozy and idyllic here. The cappuccino costs only two euros, which surprised me. There's also an art exhibition here for those interested.

A romantically landscaped garden, also well maintained! A lovely stroll, free admission. Especially beautiful with the view over the surrounding countryside and the vineyards!

A relatively unknown destination for us German tourists, but it's definitely worth seeing! A cappuccino in the beautiful castle setting still costs 2 euros! A castle village currently under reconstruction, very authentic. Beautiful.
