The castle's special jewel can be admired in its ballroom. This is where people danced, dined and discussed politics. A lively red deer frieze from the time it was built has been preserved on the walls and the magnificent stucco ceiling is richly decorated with hunting scenes. The castle museum houses an extensive collection of important paintings, impressive sculptures and precious small art from the Middle Ages from Mecklenburg and northern Germany in the vaults in the basement. In the ducal rooms on the upper floors, the splendor of the former princely residence is brought back to life with paintings and handicraft objects from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, magnificent art chamber pieces and valuable hunting and ceremonial weapons. Güstrow Castle is one of the most important Renaissance castles in northern Germany. When the medieval predecessor was largely destroyed by fire over 400 years ago, the impressive residence was created in its current form. It combines Italian and French architectural elements with a typically northern European basic structure in a fascinating way. St. Nikolai was first mentioned in 1257, but is certainly a little older. It was the heart of the second of the four Rostock settlements. The church was consecrated in its current form in 1312. It was badly damaged in the Second World War. In a long-term reconstruction, a changed usage concept was implemented: The church space is used for church services and events, there are apartments in the roof, and the tower was made usable for church administration tasks.

The Nikolaikirche Rostock is not only a meeting place for church, art and culture, it also offers unique living and working spaces. Construction began in 1230, heavily damaged in 1942, the nave and tower burned down, the organ and the baroque pulpit fell victim to the flames. In 1976 the tower, the church roof and the nave were rebuilt and apartments were built in the roof, today it is an event venue (concerts, markets, exhibitions). The organ comes from the Philippus Church in Rummelsberg/Bavaria. It was ceremoniously inaugurated in Rostock in April 2002. Directly below the choir is the Schwibbogen, a narrow and low roadway. Above the Schwibbogen you can see a restored picture of St. Nicholas in front of the silhouette of Rostock. https://www.auf-nach-mv.de/reiseziele/a-nikolaikirche-rostock-kirchliches-zentrum
