On the Ssese Islands it is hard to get lost, especially when you follow this main artery: a wide hard gravel road that undulates up and down and has some hot climbs and fast descents. Along the way you will mainly see a lot of palm trees, because palm oil is big business on this island. If you look closely, you will see some monkeys and beautiful views over Lake Victoria between the palm trees. Perfect for cycling with a gravel bike.

At the end of the kilometer-long wide asphalt road you arrive at the ferry port of Bukakate. From here the ferry takes you to the other side at Luku and Bugoma within 45 minutes. There is very limited space for cars and even when we were at the port an hour before departure some of the support vehicles of our trip had broken down. Fortunately there is usually space for cyclists, but be sure to arrive well in advance! In the port itself you will find a few shops with very questionable fish that I would never eat myself. The bottles of cola were very welcome.

Although Coco beach is not a cycling highlight, it is a nice place to stop. At the end of my trip through Uganda the finish was at Coco beach, where we enjoyed the beach (no swimming in lake Victoria of course) and while enjoying a hamburger and a beer we enjoyed the festive atmosphere and the view. Directly next door is a hotel where we could shower before our night flight to Europe from the adjacent airport.

Nice walk on a slightly busy street. It was said this area is where tourists stay over night. However, due to Jinja being a smaller town we barely noticed any tourists. Nonetheless a huge number of shops available on this street.

A very big and pretty beach with white sand at the shores of lake Victoria. Most of the beach area belongs to a "resort" and costs a 3000 TSH entry fee. You will be able to get some food and drinks here and they sometimes also have bonfires in the evening. For 30000 TSH you can stay there in a bungalow and for 20000 TSH you can bring your own tent.
