Molinetto della Croda

Highlight • Monument

The Molinetto della Croda, in the Lierza valley, represents one of the most evocative corners of the Marca Trevigiana.
In its almost four centuries of history it has inspired artists and enchanted thousands of visitors.
A characteristic example of rural architecture of the 17th century, the building was built in several stages.
The foundations of the original construction rest on the bare rock, precisely the “croda” of the mountain.

Washhouses and Rosada Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

On the road that leads from Rolle to nearby Arfanta, on the left, in a sort of natural amphitheater, you can see some singular artefacts, at the foot of a modest but spectacular waterfall.

The spectacle is one that leaves you speechless and allows the observer to take a leap into the past: these are in fact the ancient wash houses and troughs of the town where the inhabitants met to do their laundry and water their livestock.

The particular system of fountains and basins is fed thanks to the Rosada, i.e. the small stream which, descending from the mountain, then heads towards the Molinetto della Croda di Refrontolo.

Once the center of village fervour, this place was about to be erased by the neglect of time.

The renovation works that allow us to appreciate this glimpse of recent history today are in fact due to an intervention carried out between 2002 and 2004 thanks to the synergy of the Municipality, Comunità Montana delle Prealpi Trevigiane, Gal 3 and Fondazione Cassamarca.

During the works, the old stone bridge that connected Rolle to Arfanta along what was the "Rosada municipal road" was also brought to light.

The Carron stream originates from the hills above Sonego (fraction of Fregona), after about 12 km it flows into the Friga (municipality of Cordignano) and the latter stream subsequently flows into the Meschio river.
The Carron is a torrential watercourse, that is, it does not always have the same quantity of water during the year: generally in winter and autumn it is in flood, while during the summer it is dry.

April 25, 2026, Chiesetta della Madonna, Santi Giovanni e Lucia e Cascata sul Torrente Carron

The Chiesetta della Madonna, San Giovanni e Santa Lucia is located in Breda di Fregona, in an enchanting position at the foot of Cansiglio. Originally built in the 14th century by the family of the counts of Collalto, the church stands in an area where the young Carron stream still flows, before descending towards the plain. It is a place of archaic charm, once a fundamental resting point for wayfarers ascending towards the mountain. Inside, one breathes an authentic spirituality, with frescoes that bear witness to the centuries-old devotion of the inhabitants to Saint Lucia, protector of sight. Its simple architecture, surrounded by greenery and the murmur of water, makes it one of the most evocative stops for those exploring the historic trails between the hills of the vittoriese and the caves of Caglieron.

The mill was built in 1630 and shortly afterwards accommodation for the caretaker family, a stable and a granary were added. It exploited the waters of the Lierza stream, the main tributary of the Soligo, at the foot of a 12-metre waterfall; it was decommissioned in 1953. At the end of the twentieth century, after experiencing years of degradation, the mill was purchased by the municipality of Refrontolo, which carried out a careful restoration and turned it into a milling museum as well as a venue for exhibitions, including in 2009, an important retrospective by the painter Angelo Lorenzon and, in winter, the annual International Nativity Exhibition.
