Occupying a beautiful meadow below the summit slopes of Vučjak, the Zavižan hut makes for a great pit stop when exploring the peaks of the Northern Velebit. It acts as a weather station and is the highest continuously inhabited building in Croatia. The hut enjoys splendid views towards the Adriatic and of the Zavižan basin.

July 2023 spontaneous overnight stay. It worked great, including two drinks from the fridge for €20. Host doesn't speak English well, but you can communicate.

According to park rangers, staying overnight is prohibited here. Entrance to the national park costs 5€. I was cashed out of the car by a ranger shortly after the barrier at the southern entrance. There are nice places to sleep at the southern exit at the Zavizan hut.
