Well I have to be honest this is just what is needed after a bit of a hike. Nothing as peaceful as being able to sit down for a break on a proper bench with a glorious view out onto the surrounding woodland.

From Wakestone Lane don't miss these striking ruins situated in the valley below, just off a leafy bridleway. Standing proud are the remains of an abandoned church and school known as St Michaels and All Angels Anglian Church. It was built in 1800 but shut its doors for the last time in 1959 after a dwindling congregation.

This viewpoint on the Southwestern edge of Hesworth Common comes with a bench, lots of heather, sandy path leading up to it through birch woods and a nice view over the surrounding fields and hills. Bring your picnic or walk up there for the sunset.
