In 1744, this former washhouse was part of the impressive half-timbered building belonging to Hans Jerg Xander at Lederstraße 3. From 1846, it served as the official residence of schoolmaster Christoph Reinhold Barchet. In 1846, the town of Grunbach acquired this washhouse from Isaak Friedrich Gerst and converted it into a communal bakehouse. The roof structure was renewed, and a brick oven was built, in accordance with official regulations for conserving heating fuel and the prohibition of individual ovens in farmhouses. In 1847, following a request from the town council, this communal bakehouse was equipped with an additional drying rack for fruit. According to the town council minutes of the time, the bailiff Zeyher was appointed as the tenant. He was responsible for procuring the wood himself and collected a rent from all users. It cost 9 Kreuzer for a green Simri (an old dry measure – approx. 20 liters) of apple slices and 12 Kreuzer for a Simri filled with plums or dried pears. The bakehouse, now a listed building, is still in use as a community bakehouse. Thanks to the extensive volunteer work of the citizens' initiative "Backhauskultur" (Bakehouse Culture), the bakehouse was renovated in 2015. This included the installation of a new oven and the implementation of a new color scheme for the interior.
