Constanța Old Town

Highlight • Historical Site

Constanta historically known as Tomis, is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Romania. It was founded by Greece colonists in the 7th century b.C. The name was Tomis.

At the picture you see some archaeological excavation in front of St. Peter & Paul Cathedral.

Tomis was later renamed to Constantiana in honor of Constantia, the half-sister of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (274-337).

The earliest known usage of this name was Constantia in 950.

The city is located on the Black Sea coast. It is the capital of Constanța County and the largest city in the region with round about 280 000 population.

Constanţa is Romania's largest and most important port city at the Black Sea and the fourth largest harbor in Europe.

If you have some spare time and you are curious about the history of Romania and Constanta, come and see this great city at the Black See.

Of course, I spend most of my time in Constanta looking at the sights of the city, which are numerous. There is, among other things, the old town or the harbour, which only really comes to life in the evening. But often I just sit in cafes on the beach or in the center and just relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Mamaia Promenade and Corbu Beach

Highlight (Segment) • Beach

About 2 km away from my accommodation starts the party mile called
Mamaia. This 4 km long stretch of beach on the Black Sea is comparable to the Ballermann in Mallorca. Everywhere hotels, bars restaurant, fries etc etc.
I first have to get used to not being on tour every day and having much more time during the day. At the beginning I miss the daily stages very much.
Therefore, I do a bike ride to a restaurant 25 km outside of Konstanta that was recommended to me. The way there goes first over Mamaia, where you can drive everywhere great bike, and then continue on the DN 3 at a huge refinery over, terrible this short section. I wanted to turn around but behind the industrial plant, the road was better again and the traffic less.
The restaurant is about 200 meters from the beach. And here they still have the small beach areas, where you can stand with a camper or a tent right on the beach. Everything is very quiet here. No mass tourism as in Mamaia. Of course there is fish to eat.

Monument to Romanian Sailors

Highlight • Monument

Historical Headquarters of the Naval Command (Headquarters of the Naval Command, also known as the Fleet Command)
Origin as a hotel: The monumental, white building was constructed between 1879 and 1882 according to plans by the renowned Romanian architect Alexandru Orăscu in the neoclassical style. It originally opened as the Hotel Carol (later also Hotel Terminus). At the time, it was considered one of the most luxurious and modern hotels on the entire Black Sea coast and hosted high-ranking aristocrats and politicians.
Military use: In 1924, the property was acquired by the Ministry of Defence and has since served as the headquarters of the Romanian Navy.
Special feature: The building was designed to face the city, which is why it is often described as the magnificent building built "with its back to the sea." On the sea side, the beach promenade with its distinctive pavilions and seating areas invites strolling.

Genovese Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Origin: Local legends say that the original base of the lighthouse was built around 1300 by Genoese merchants, who dominated maritime trade in the region at that time.
Today's building: The current, characteristic stone building was erected between 1858 and 1860 by the French-Armenian engineer Artin Aslan on behalf of a British railway company.
Architecture: The tower is about 8 meters high, has a square foundation, and transitions into a distinctive octagonal shape in the upper part, crowned by a metal dome.
Operation: It guided ships safely into the harbor for over half a century (from 1860 to 1913). It was then replaced by the more modern Carol I Lighthouse. After more than 100 years of inactivity, its original optics were restored and symbolically reignited in February 2020.

Good morning folks. My brother and I had a bet on who could win the most money online this weekend. He linked me to https://dansk-casino.com/ so we could use the same place. I noticed that they had a wide range of exclusive games, which I had never seen before. I started by losing the first five rounds and was about to give up. Then I hit a bonus wheel on one of the new machines, and my balance shot up. I won our bet by a good margin, and also got enough to pay for my next cinema trip here in Denmark.

Constanta is a beautiful city with a lot of history. The Archaeological Museum is recommended, with the highlight being the "Thinker of Cernavoda" based on the Thinker by Auguste Rodin, only 8,000 years older. There are also many Roman works of art to see. The city has several clean sandy beaches and is an alternative to Italy. The cuisine is also excellent. Not to mention the prices. Check it out!👍🙋🏻‍♂️🍀
