A very beautiful old lighthouse. Unfortunately, it's not open to visitors as it's privately owned.

According to other sources, they blocked off the site after a woman broke her ankle and the rescue operation disturbed the puffins.

What a beautiful beach overlooking Scrabster. It's always special to walk along the seafront, watching and listening to the waves. Access to the beach was via a few steps at either end. On the day I visited, it was beautifully clean and the wind was blowing quite strongly. It's a truly superb location.

A top-notch exhibition on the area's past, from archaeological finds to the nearby former experimental reactor, whose control room is preserved there. Admission is free, donations welcome.

Orientation table and viewpoint on the Victoria Walk in Thurso. Posted by the Rotary Club of Thurso. To be able to see the indicated destinations, the weather must be very clear!

The River Thurso, which flows into the sea at one side of the beach, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and the beach is popular with fossil hunters. This is Caithness' main town beach so the facilities, access and parking are all excellent. The beach itself is a mix of sand and rocks. The offshore reefs also make this a popular surfing location. Dr. John Grant Smith was born in Lochside, Halkirk, but did not follow in his father's footsteps. He chose to become a doctor. He studied in Edinburgh and practiced medicine in Thurso for some forty-four years until his sudden death in 1898 at the age of 67. By then he had become a highly regarded physician and a recognized authority in the health sciences. Such was the respect among the people for this man that after his death the people of Thurso dedicated this monument to his memory and financed its costs by public subscription. (Caithness.org)
