Bahntrassen Cycle Path Oberwart–Bad Tatzmannsdorf

Highlight • Cycleway

great bike path from Rechnitz to Groß Petersdorf and on to Oberwart. From there you drive on another railway line to your destination. Perfectly designed, super asphalt, hardly any inclines - logical. Railroad tracks don't have much gradient...

The summit cross is a little way away from the summit, because the beautiful lookout tower is located there. However, it is right on the path and cannot be overlooked. The path is easy to walk. No special skills or equipment are required. The summit cross and the lookout tower are already in Hungary.

Geschriebenstein Summit Cross

Highlight • Summit

As already mentioned in other comments, not exactly at the summit, but it definitely deserves the designation as a summit cross. Beautiful aluminum cross anchored on a rock. At the right time of year and day, it can also be wonderfully depicted with the sun in the background.

Rechnitz Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Rechnitz Trail is the most difficult but also the most successful trail here. Luckily, for a change, it's not uphill here, just downhill. The largest part of the trail consists of very nicely groomed, steep and high berms on which you can really get some momentum. However, the trail is still very versatile. The berms run through the entire course of the trail, but in between there are some high-speed passages, drops, tables, flat curves, berms, signposted line variations in different difficulties and a really great trail feature. A stone gully which is also called "The Canyon" and the canyon is in my opinion the highlight of the trail. It is about a 40m long gully made of stone where you can open the brakes completely and shoot over the rock garden. The Rechnitz Trail is really the best and also the most fun. Also because there are no uphill sections and you really get into the flow.

For once I didn't ride the Uphill Trail because after the long journey we wanted to ride downhill as often as possible, although the departure times of the shuttle absolutely had to be changed!

Rotenturm Castle

Highlight • Castle

Rotenturm Castle was built between 1862 and 1864 by order of the Erdödy count family. After a fire in 1924 and changing owners, Heinz Schiener was able to save the castle with the Federal Monuments Office. After an extensive renovation, it shines in new splendor and can be rented for events.
Unfortunately, the castle is not open to the public.

The cycle path was officially opened at the beginning of September.
This approx. 14.5 km long section from Großpetersdorf to Rechnitz was developed as a cycle path on the former railway line. It leads from Großpetersdorf via Hannersdorf, Schandorf and Schachendorf to Rechnitz.

The entire cycle route from the main square in Oberschützen to the reservoir in Rechnitz has a total length of around 42 km. Of these, around 21 km were expanded on the former route and around 2 km on the goods route network.
In the section from Sonnseitn Oberschützen to the L424a Bad Tatzmannsdorfer Ast, a footpath and cycle path was built, and from here a cycle path to Schönberggasse in Oberwart.

A sensationally beautiful castle (from the outside). We hiked past here and made a firm decision to pay this castle an extra visit. Really beautiful.

The railway cycle path from Bad Tatzmannsdorf to Oberwart is traffic-free and gently downhill throughout, and from Großpetersdorf to Rechnitz the cycle path is also traffic-free and easily suitable for families! In Hannersdorf there is a lovely rest area with a wooden train.

The small sacred monument we encounter on the Geschriebenstein, in the form of a summit cross, is—besides the view it offers—perhaps also the perfect place for a brief moment of reflection. A few years ago, Christiane Völkel commented on the wonderfully fitting sentence by the Italian poet Francesco Petrarch (who lived in the 14th century), "Everywhere one has heaven above oneself," as follows: "What is the use of prayer? This question moves me (...) I have found for myself the answer and the certainty that when I pray I am with the Lord, or rather, that when I pray he is often noticeably closer to me than usual. Thus, I retain the possibility of pouring out my heart to him (...) This intimacy with him makes me believe in him."

It is a very nice cycle path with a rest area to Gr. Petersdorf with repair tools and a rest area near Rechnitz are both very nice. This railway path is also highly recommended for families. Don't forget the wooden locomotive in Hannersdorf with a playground and pasture area.
