The structure dams the river for a length of 10 kilometers, creating the picturesque reservoir lake Ferlacher Stausee. The entire facility is completely unmanned – the powerful engineering is controlled and monitored remotely from another power plant. The Drauradweg (R1) trail leads cyclists smoothly and safely across the river to the other side of the dam crest. From the footbridge over the dam, there is an incredible panoramic view of the green water surface, in which the rocky peaks of the Karawanks Alps are reflected. An excellent place to take a spectacular industrial-mountain photo and take a moment to rest to the sound of the dammed river.
