A mill stood on this spot for centuries; its direct predecessor was used in the French period by the Ubags family from Oud‑Vroenhoven. In 1856, the Maastricht industrialist Petrus Regout bought the mill and, around 1869-1872, had a new watermill built, specifically for grinding glaze for his crystal and pottery factories in Maastricht. The building is designated as a national monument and is part of a larger historical mill and farmstead ensemble in the Jekerdal.

De Smokkelmolen, an old gristmill on the Jeker. The mill is mentioned as existing before 1640 and was rebuilt in 1650, making the entire structure largely 17th-century. The year 1650 is still visible in iron S-shaped wall anchors on the facade. The building is constructed of white marlstone, has two superimposed mill dwellings, and a characteristic undershot wheel. The small bridge over the Jeker makes it a popular spot for hikers.
