The Dinkel is a small, idyllic river that flows, among other places, through the Lutterzand nature reserve in the Netherlands. The official source of the Dinkel is located in the Bauerschaft Höven in the municipality of Rosendahl (Coesfeld district), about two kilometers south of the district of Holtwick. From there, the river initially flows through the Münsterland (passing Legden, Heek, and Gronau, among others), then changes to the Netherlands (where it flows through the aforementioned Lutterzand and near Denekamp, among others), briefly flows back into Germany (Lower Saxony) and finally flows into the Vechte near Neuenhaus.

On the Dutch side, the Dinkel River flows naturally through the beautiful landscape; on the German side, it's straightened. The banks couldn't be more different. There's no question as to which Dinkel I find more beautiful.
