From 1239, Bützow was the main residence of the bishops of Schwerin. In 1248, a collegiate church was founded here, which is why the church was originally planned as a representative cathedral — unusually large for the small town.

A big thumbs down from me. Absolutely not a cycling highlight I'd recommend, it was a terrible ride for us yesterday! While this is indeed a beautiful route through the forest on good asphalt, given the surroundings, the road is extremely narrow, and cars were constantly coming from both directions during our tour around 4 p.m. on a Thursday (August 28, 2025). Many cars were hesitant to overtake for a while because it's so narrow – even though we were riding right next to the road, like a string of pearls (five of us). When they did, it was certainly not without danger. The problem was probably made worse by the fact that there's a road closure between Brüel and Sternberg, which probably caused a few more cars to bypass it. There will be times/days when it's a nice ride, but I expect that it's often just as stressful to ride here as it was for us.

The scenery is stunning, but unfortunately the road is very narrow and there are a lot of cars (I drove there on a Monday afternoon). Perhaps it's better on the weekend?

Concrete slabs are easy to ride. Road bikes aren't really suitable. Gravel is fine.

Perfect for a break. Otherwise, it's just a bridge. ;-)
