Built in the early Renaissance period between 1539 and 1543, the Old Town Hall is today the landmark of the city of Weiden. A town hall stood here as early as 1400, but burned down to its foundations in 1536. While the new town hall, subsequently constructed by master builder Hans Nopl, served the administration on the upper floors, the ground floor housed sixteen shops. Since the construction of the New Town Hall in 1978, a city council meeting has been held here only once a year. It is also used for weddings and special receptions. Shops still house the ground floor today. A remarkable carillon chimes daily at 11:35 a.m. and 4:35 p.m.

Built between 1539 and 1548 by master builder Hans Nopl, master carpenter Hans Stieber and stonemason Andreas Falk, the Old Town Hall in the centre of Weiden's beautiful old town has lost none of its historical charm thanks to extensive renovation between 1914 and 1917. The beamed ceiling in the large meeting room is particularly impressive, a work of craftsmanship from the 16th century. A special feature of the building's facade is the sonorous carillon facing the Upper Market, which has been delighting the people of Weiden musically since 1983. Every day at 11:35 a.m. and 4:35 p.m. you can hear a selection of songs from the repertoire of 99 works.
