A very beautiful little church, for those who are traveling and want to stop for a moment to pray. To the side of the church there is a small garden with a water fountain. otherwise continuing towards Perugia, a few meters ahead on the left we encounter another one

Santuario della Madonna di Lourdes – Montemelino A surprising place on the hills of Trasimeno. The church was built starting from 1865, just a few years after the Lourdes apparitions of 1858, becoming one of the first places in Italy dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes. Inside, there is also a reproduction of the Grotto of Massabielle, the one of the apparitions to Bernadette Soubirous. A small corner of history and devotion that you encounter almost unexpectedly while cycling through the woods of Montemelino.

An imposing fortified building, it stands on a hill overlooking the Caina River valley. Over the course of its nearly thousand-year history, the site has served religious, military, and residential purposes, each of which has left its mark on its architecture and decorative features. The earliest archival sources date back to 1206, when a papal bull issued by Innocent III attests to the Plebs Sancti Johannis, the parish church dedicated to Saint John, under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Perugia. In 1560, Cardinal Fulvio I Della Corgna (nephew of Pope Julius III) transformed the castle into a late Renaissance residence, commissioning Mannerist artists to decorate the castle's halls and main courtyard with paintings and sculptures. Hanging gardens were created, with monumental access staircases, a fish pond, and grottoes with water features, in keeping with the taste of the time. It served as the summer residence of the Bishops of Perugia, who customarily moved there on the day before the feast of Saint John, until the last century (1923). During the 20th century, the complex underwent a period of decay, partly as a result of the Second World War, when it became a base for the German army. Since 1999, the Diocese has entrusted it to the Perugia School of Construction (now CESF), which has made it its educational site and overseen its restoration. Finally reopened, the Pieve del Vescovo Castle is accessible by reservation by contacting the CESF. (Tel. 075 5059480) Source: https://turismo.comune.perugia.it/poi/pieve-del-vescovo

Antognolla Castle, located on the slopes of Monte Tezio and now part of an exclusive golf club, owes its name to the ancient Antognolla family of Perugia. First mentioned in 1174 for the presence of a Benedictine monastery, it became a fiefdom in 1399 at the behest of Pope Boniface IX. Over the following centuries, it was at the center of conflicts between noble families, until it passed to the Oddi family in 1628 and then to the Guglielmi family in 1836. After a period under the Agnelli family, it was recently restored to become a luxury resort.
