Marienburg Castle was built from 1858 for Queen Marie of Hanover and is one of the most impressive structures in the region. Until 2020, it was privately owned, then a transition to the current Marienburg Castle Foundation was pushed forward. Coupled with this was the urgently needed renovation of the castle after 160 years. The castle is being extensively renovated for 27 million euros, which is why it is currently not accessible to the public. If the construction work allows, individual parts will be opened. The renovation measures are expected to last until 2031. Impressions of the castle and news can be found here: https://www.stiftung-schloss-marienburg.de/

The Marienburg is located on the eastern slope of the Schulenburger Berg mountain, overlooking the Leine river. It is a beautiful castle in a great location. Once built as a gift for a queen, you can visit and tour it today. A café and a restaurant invite you to enjoy the hospitality. The paths to the castle are easily passable in all weather conditions. And if the sun hides when you are here: Enjoy the unique atmosphere when the walls show themselves in a rain-freshened glow.
