Urach Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The Urach Waterfall is one of the absolute highlights of the Swabian Alb and, with a total drop of 37 meters in several stages, is one of the highest waterfalls in Germany outside the Alps. It is particularly impressive when the snow melts or after heavy rain, because then a lot of water flows. Together with the very humid and therefore dense and green forest all around, you almost feel like you have been transported to another world. There is a hut at the top of the waterfall where you can get food.

Güterstein waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The Güterstein Waterfall cascades into the neighboring valley just about one kilometer north of the much more famous Urach Waterfall and is considerably less visited than the latter. The waterfall cascades approximately 20 meters into a depth in two cascades, with a pool in between. Due to the high humidity, the vegetation is similarly lush to that of its larger brother. In earlier times, limestone was mined here, which the water washed out on its short journey from the Alb plateau, and which precipitates again in the cascades.

Brühlbach Stream Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

From the Maisental parking lot, the trail continues along the Brühlbach stream. It's also wheelchair-accessible up to the steps in front of the Urach Waterfall. The numerous cascades in the stream and the crystal-clear water make the trail truly enjoyable. On weekends, it's advisable to set off early, as it gets quite crowded after lunchtime.

Hohenurach Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

A really large ruin complex of the former prison fortress Hohenurach. The Urach waterfall can be seen and heard from there. There are still some rooms, cellars, dungeons, and open spaces to explore, and the ruin is definitely worth a detour. Until 2024, the castle ruins will still be renovated in four construction phases. However, only a very small part is always enclosed by scaffolding, which does not detract from the experience at the castle. We found it exceptionally beautiful and interesting. The spiral staircases are often very small and narrow, so clothing that can get a bit dirty should be worn. Otherwise, everything is very easily accessible.

It's best to visit the waterfall only during the week. There is a lot going on here at weekends and during the holidays and you don't have your peace and quiet.

Very beautiful clear water, would recommend starting a tour here early and walking over the water walls and slide rocks to the ruin. Or even bigger to take the Güterstein waterfall with you. See Bad Uracher Tour in my profile.
