The Sycamore Trail is a commuter and connector trail in the southern part of Lansing. It connects the Lansing River Trail to the Valhalla Trail and is the same trail surface as those paths (completely paved). There are a couple cool bridges you get to run over on the trail since it hops back and forth across the water a couple of times.

The Valhalla Trail shares a path with part of the Lansing River Trail route. It's a paved point-to-point path that is really popular for running, walking, and biking. Valhalla Park plays host to a load of recreational offerings. The warmer months are mostly geared towards open water swimming, while the park offers groomed Nordic trails in the winter. There are also a number of paths passing through the property that are great for dry-season running.

The South Lansing Pathway connects to the Lansing River Trail but is much less traveled. Whether it's because it's a little further outside the city or because it doesn't pass through as many different types of nature environments, you get a lot of solitude when you decide to run on this portion of paved trail.

The plaza at Rotary Park is a popular spot on the Lansing River Trail to see people, start or stop a run, and take a break on the path. There is a parking area here just behind the City Market that is on the edge of the park.

From Elm Street Park to Potter Park, the Lansing River Trail follows along the north bank of the Red Cedar River before crossing the river and heading south. You can tell there is less noise and light pollution, and you make your way further and further from the city on the River Trail. This is where you can really start to tell you're getting into the suburbs.
