This is a super exciting and adventurous trail run up to Montaรฑon Peak. The path is steep and comprises rocky and uneven ground, so running experience through mountainous and wild areas is recommended. It's a tough climb up, but the views across the entire Santa Cruz Islands and beautiful waters that surround it make it well worthwhile.

This is the main dock on and off of Santa Cruz Island. The trip from the mainland takes about an hour, and the boats are operated between 5-7 days a week. From the boat, visitors need to climb up a steel ladder in order to access the dock. When the dock is closed, a smaller boat will shuttle visitors directly to the beach. Nearby there are picnic areas, public restrooms, trailheads, and campgrounds. There is no form of transportation on the island, so it is by foot only.

This is an unmaintained trail so be sure to have a map handy, itโs quite easy to go down the wrong ridge. Iโd also recommend hiking poles as portions of the descent are loose rock and steep. Or you can slide down on your butt like yours truly.

Be sure to pack in/out all food and garbage. Watch out for the little island foxes! Theyโll steal your food and pee on your pillow, so keep that tent zipped up!
