Very rocky underfloot buf you can see the old toilet on the southside wall of the castle as you pass by it

Now with a new gate to the lower section, spoils the descent but at least it provides a great view of the Reservoir and a chance for a photo

More Information

Ride fantastic ridgelines with sweeping views

Mountain biking from the Hope Valley gives you a huge range of trails to choose from and you can ride off road as far and wide as you like. Mam Tor at the head of the valley is one of the most incredible objectives and you can reach it by heading uphill to Hollins Cross for some exceptional views before working your way along the ridge to the summit of Mam Tor. To descend, Cave Dale is an expert and white knuckle ride whilst neighbouring Pin Dale is more forgiving.

If you want to start and stay high, you can park near Mam Tor on Rushup Edge.

Enjoy something for every ability at Ladybower

There are some seriously beautiful MTB rides from Hope Valley to Ladybower Reservoir, one of the national park’s most impressive bodies of water. If you’re up for a challenge, you can begin in Hope and ascend along the Hope Brink hillside and follow the ridge along to the north end of the reservoir at Haggwater. You can ride onwards to the north eastern strand of the water or head southwards along the shore or higher through the woods. The low trails here are great for families.

A big day out can take you past the reservoir to Derwent Edge, where outstanding views await along with singletrack and some thrilling rocky trails. Moorland, forest, craggy rocks – this area is true Peaks.

Linking Edale and Hope

The glory of mountain bike rides in the Hope Valley is this: you’re not constrained by the relative slow speed of hiking or the roads that cars must stick to. One of the best ways to make the most of Hope’s epic location is to ride a loop to Edale and back, taking in skyline ridges, forest trails and valley floors. You’ve got a ton of options to link these gorgeous valleys together, it all depends on how much you love grindy hills and adrenaline descents.
