The Schimmelturm (Mold Tower) was built between 1457 and 1478. Commissioned by Councilor Georg Imhof, the tower was intended to serve as a watchtower, providing a better overview of the surrounding countryside, while also representing the civic pride of Lauingen. The tower, freestanding on two sides, has nine square and two octagonal stories and a three-story lantern topped with a Welsche (Italianate) dome. It stands approximately 54 meters tall. Roman ashlar blocks from the Faimingen fort were used in the construction of the foundations and the ground floor. https://www.lauingen.de/kultur/lauingen-entdecken/schimmelturm
