Fantastic old Monestir. It’s hard to imagine it’s thát old. Somehow it made me think of the James Bond movie Skyfall. Definitely worth a visit. Last part of the road is unpaved. For that part the Gravelbike or an MTB is the best choice

Its history dates back to medieval times. It is believed to have been founded in the 9th or 10th century. During its history, the monastery was an important religious and cultural center in the region. The monastery has Romanesque architecture and some Gothic parts. The monastery church is an outstanding example of Catalan Romanesque architecture. It presents architectural elements characteristic of that period, such as semicircular arches and decorated columns. Over the years, the monastery played an important role in the religious life of the region, and housed a community of monks. Today, the monastery has been restored and preserved as a place of historical and religious interest. The monastery is usually open to the public for sightseeing tours, where visitors can explore its historic architecture and learn more about its religious past. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QUPgTSfoEg

The Puig d'Esquers is an example of the typical Empordà mountain: sea, mountains, sun, wind, dolmens, Romanesque churches and great views presided over by the Canigó. There are several ascent routes, both from the coast and from the interior. We did it from the Coll de Tres Camins passing by the church of Sant Miquel de Colera. Technical sheet: Altitude: 606 m. Easy excursion. Ascent by track and trail. Difference in level: 220 m. Distance: 2.7 km. Duration: 1h 5min (one way). Recommended for children over 4 years old. Cartography: Topographic map of Catalonia 1:25,000. Protected Natural Areas. Albera Natural Site of National Interest. Cartographic Institute of Catalonia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2hmAAluS_8

The Monestir de Sant Quirze de Colera, built in the 11th century on the remains of an old church, is located in the current Paratge Natural d'Interès Nacional de l'Albera, six kilometers from the town of Rabós. The church of the monastery is the building of the complex that is in the best condition. It is an austere construction, made of stone, in the Romanesque style with influences from Rosselló and Lombard decoration. In addition to the church, a part of the cloister is also preserved, although it can be seen in some entire arches how simple and primitive they were in their construction. You can also see the remains of a defense tower and the house of the abbot. Thanks to the isolated place where it is located, a wide valley at the foot of the Serra d'Albera and the particular color of the stone in which it was built, this monastery is one of the most beautiful medieval complexes in Catalonia.
