The De Wittsee is an idyllic, two-part lake in the heart of the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park in Nettetal, North Rhine-Westphalia. Separated by a striking dam, on which an old railway line now serves as a picturesque cycle and foot path, the body of water is divided into two completely different areas. It is a wonderful destination for hikers, nature observers, and active holidaymakers on the Lower Rhine. The two faces of the lake: • The Großer De Wittsee (North): Here, active leisure pursuits are the focus. The lake offers very good conditions for water sports enthusiasts for sailing and canoeing. Note: Contrary to older leisure tips, classic swimming/bathing in the lake is officially not permitted or not advisable due to recurring blue-green algae blooms. • The Kleiner De Wittsee (South): This part is a protected nature reserve and a refuge for local wildlife. In spring, numerous rare water birds such as the white wagtail, great crested grebe, cormorants, and coots breed here.

Haus Bey today belongs to the golf course and can also be used for weddings. One of the oldest buildings in Nettetal is the manor house of Haus Bey in Hinsbeck, built around 1450, also called "Schlösschen" by many. The estate was a secondary property of Krickenbeck, precisely a "Beij-Gut". The first evidence is an inheritance contract from 1521, in which the owner of Krickenbeck Castle, Reiner von Holthausen, bequeathed Haus Bey to his son Wilhelm. He subsequently lived on the estate. It was not until 1682 that the new owners of Krickenbeck Castle, the Freiherren von Schaesberg, acquired the knight's estate back.

The Kovermühle was a watermill with an undershot waterwheel located on the Nette River in the municipality of Wachtendonk. The Kovermühle was owned by the Schaesberg family and was first documented in 1349. It and the Nettmühle below it likely gave their name to the old "Müllem" farming community and the Müllemer Hof farm, which was first mentioned in the 14th century. The mill was operated exclusively as a grain mill with an undershot waterwheel. At the end of 1945, mill operations ceased. The dam and waterwheel were dismantled. After a period of agricultural use, the restored miller's house is now used as a residential building. Source: wikipedia.org

One of three parking options and direct access to the tour. Another advantage of this parking lot: the restaurant right next door.
