This is Félicien Agard (1804-1869), an Aix bourgeois, lawyer and director of Salins du Midi, who had the idea of creating this pedestrian shortcut between Cours Mirabeau and Place de Verdun. To do this, he acquired the Carmelite convent that was previously located there and had been declared national property during the Revolution. In the part of the passage opening onto Cours Mirabeau, Félicien Agard had to make do with a narrow corridor, as one of the cloister's arches had already been used to build apartments. This bottleneck in the passage is still criticized today. On the other hand, in the part leading to Place de Verdun, he had a tall and majestic gate built. On the first floor of the Sephora store, one can see the ribbed vaults of the former convent church. The shop to the right of the perfumer also reveals vestiges of the place of worship. For one of his birthdays, Félicien Agard, a member of the Academy of Aix, received a short poem from one of his colleagues, which jokingly stigmatized the lawyer's nightlife. He was often seen in nightclubs. Drinking, singing, dancing, making a lot of noise, one could not count all his love affairs. One day it was Phi-Phi, the next day Zézette! Zoë first cried: "800 years for my party, And you chase skirts while paying me back, You're coming of age, don't be a fool, You need to be serious, you're not a wise Agard..." Excerpt from the book "Chacun cherche sa rue dans les Bouches-du-Rhône", written by Jean-Pierre Cassely, Mémoires millénaires editions, €15.
