Today we are doing a HeimatSpur in the Eigel good weather, cool winds We start in Ulmen. Through a forest path leads the way first to the Eifel village Meiserich. After that, it goes through the valley of the Üssbach. You pass two former mills: the Maismühle and the Auderather Mühle. In Ulmen, the hike ends with a walk through the Maar-Stollen. Nice easy hike over mostly forest paths.
The tunnel has only been open since 2023 and connects the Ulmener Maar with the Jungferweiher Maar. It is 120 meters long and 70 cm wide at its narrowest point. Good display boards with explanations of the various rock layers of volcanic history are clearly visible. The tunnel was used to channel water from the two maars into the Ulmener Bach to the mills.
Compliments to Willi for this hike as well. Great tour, great weather, and a great group.
The castle Christmas market is only taking place today. My penultimate home trail 😊 The Ulmener Acht home trail (21 km) can be divided into the Kleine Ulmener Acht and the Große Ulmener Acht.
Today's tour was the big round of the "HeimatSpur Ulmener Acht", which we hiked in the opposite direction. In addition, we have modified the tour somewhat in order to cross the Eifel highlight, the Ulmener Maar tunnel, which opened on April 24th, 2023. The starting point can be reached by public transport. You can find more information here: https://stadt-ulmen.de/maarstollen.php https://www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/heimatspur-ulmener-acht/
The hike begins well signposted with the corresponding logo on the old railway line. First I go around a piece of it because I think the old tracks are great. What was it like when trains were still running? Then it follows the logo, I follow the tour, cross the street, come through a residential area and then arrive in the forest. A picture that I have come to love presents itself. Trees and shadows. Peace and chirping of birds. The route leads through the Vogelsang forest down to Meiserich and into the Üssbachtal. Past the corn mill and the Auderath mill and back to Ulmen to the castle ruins. The Ulm Maar is partly circled. It lies there dark and mystical, sunlit. I like the peace and quiet there and the great view of the castle ruins that shines through between the trees. I was also impressed by the location of the maar. The big eight is part of the long 21 km long circuit. The paths are very relaxing and not strenuous to walk. I was able to enjoy the idyllic location of Meiserich and the small church. In the Üssbachtal I took a nice break on a bench in the shade with a view of a green meadow and the trees that belong to it. Freshly strengthened it went on and everything I saw pleased my eyes and my soul. The scenic diversity of the Vulkaneifel is always a pleasure. After finishing the hike, I circled the Jungferweiher. It's so great that I absolutely had to do it. I couldn't miss that.
Today a nice relaxed hike in great weather. 🌞😃
The altitude meters are once again completely off the mark. In truth they are at 330m uphill.
