Trail Reviews

Seán Donohoe
September 12, 2024, Lochaber🦌Glen Coe - Buachaille Etive Mor traverse from Allt na Feadh

All the Weathers A very satisfying day out with a small group to traverse Buachaille Etive Mòr, taking in all four summits. The day provided all sorts of weather including sun, rain showers, rainbows and short hail / snow flurries. The ascent of Coire nam Tulaich was tough, being very loose in the upper section, interspersed with some very nice easy scrambly rock. The views all around from the ridge line were immense. My favourite view was from Stob na Bròige out to Loch Etive. The descent via Coire Altruim was generally straightforward but required care on a couple of wet slabby areas. Even the walk out through the Lairig Gartain was enjoyable, being situated between the two Buachaille mountains. Another great day out on a very enjoyable week.

Fuck me fat, now I'm through. And that was only 880 m and 12 km? I idiot forgot to charge my Garmin, it would probably have output something else. T2 for ascent and descent, no, as steep as it was, climbing is essential here, gravel and overhangs, you often miss the path, so you should be vigilant. The descent involved a long stretch of pathless rock face, so the only option was to slide or climb backwards. I'm still glad I did the rounds against the recommendation. At the end of the tour I wouldn't have wanted to take the route I had taken on the climb and then down. But whatever, they were my first two Munros, with brilliant prospects.
