September 2023 Half-day route that starts from the Giau pass and reaches the Nuvolau refuge along the short Ra Gusela via ferrata. In 40 minutes from the start you reach the start of the via ferrata. It is an easy, well-equipped and short via ferrata. Practically it is made up of two sections which are also distant from each other: the first is a not difficult wall of about twenty metres, the second is a nice equipped section of the same length just before the Nuvolau refuge. Between the first and second stretch of via ferrata you cross a beautiful area full of gullies and crevasses in the rock; I recommend following the trail signs to best extricate yourself and avoid going into dead ends. The view from the Nuvolau refuge is obviously immense; you can practically see all the great Dolomite peaks, with a nice explanatory panel too. I made the return journey via the Averau refuge so as not to retrace the paths of the outward journey. If you wanted to dedicate the whole day to the itinerary, it would be possible to do the nearby Averau via ferrata or/and go to the 5 Torri where there are numerous remains of camps from the Great War.
Nonstop excitement...no one in front of you, no one behind you until the summit. Dreamlike Dolomites.
