Trail Reviews

Andreas VELOTOURER
October 14, 2023, Einfach nur schön - eine Wanderung in der Cuxhavener Küstenheide 🥾

Good morning! There's a real storm on the coast here today. We took the opportunity to go on a hike through the coastal heath between Sahlenburg, Berensch, Altenwalde and Holte-Spangen. An absolutely recommended hike on a well-designed circular hiking trail. See you soon!

This year, I'm spending another week with my parents in Cuxhaven. Since the weather was a bit unstable this morning, I decided to go for a hike in the coastal heath – truly one of the highlights up here for me😍. There's so much to discover, with numerous information panels about the flora and fauna🏵⚘️🌼🐎🐂🐃. The herd of bison was actually very close today, and I even spotted a few Heck cattle 👀. I thought the idea of the "cigarette pot" hanging on almost every bench was funny. A wonderful hike, perfect for unwinding and letting your mind wander...

The weather was great today 🌤️⛅️, so we decided to take up a tour idea from @Andrea S.. We drove to the hiking car park, from which the wonderful hike through the Cuxhaven coastal heath began. The route led us through the beautiful heath landscape, partly through wooded and partly gravel paths. Even though the heath itself had, of course, already faded, the sunshine added a special charm to the landscape. Along the way, we passed the Wilhelm Lemke Tower, from whose platform we got a good view of the landscape. 🤩 Many information boards along the trail explained the flora and fauna. We saw bison and Heck cattle from a distance, and the Konik horses were easier to photograph. 😀

Beautiful tour in the heathland with bison, Konik horses and Heck cattle. Why wander into the distance when the good is so close.

Hike to the Cuxhaven Heath in beautiful weather

It was foggy and cold today, but then the coastal heath is particularly mystical ...

Today we were out and about in the coastal heath of Cuxhaven. We first followed the nature adventure trail for a long stretch with beautiful views of the heath. Then we came to the Wilhelm-Lemke observation tower, from which we could already see Heck cattle and Konik horses in the distance. They are responsible for landscape maintenance in the heath. Then finally there was a bison enclosure next. Of course we also climbed the Feldherren Hügel 😅 even if it was only a few meters, you had a nice all-round view from there. Recently we discovered a beautifully blooming rapeseed field. I would definitely recommend this tour!
