This route is classified as difficult due to its significant elevation gain of approximately 1080 meters over a distance of about 39 kilometers. While the roads are primarily paved, the substantial ascent makes it a demanding ride.
You can expect breathtaking scenery throughout the Mocheni Valley. The route winds through tranquil environments, offering expansive views of the Valsugana valley, verdant fields, and forests. You'll be encircled by the high peaks of the eastern Lagorai range and pass through beautiful apple orchards and traditional Mocheni villages.
Beyond the natural beauty, the route offers cultural insights. You'll pass by the Church of Saint Anthony, the Vignola Saddle, and through settlements like Palù del Fersina and Sant'Orsola Terme. The valley is also known for its unique Mocheni culture, with points of interest like the Museum of the Valle dei Mòcheni/Bernstol and the Grua va Hardombl mine nearby.
Given its difficult rating and significant elevation gain, this specific route is generally not recommended for beginners or young families. It's best suited for experienced road cyclists looking for a challenging ride. Other, less demanding cycling options might be available in the broader Trentino region.
The best time for road cycling in the Mocheni Valley is typically during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn (May to October), when the weather is most favorable and the mountain passes are clear. This allows you to fully enjoy the scenic views and cultural aspects of the valley.
While this specific route goes through settlements like Palù del Fersina and Sant'Orsola Terme where you might find local amenities, the adjacent Valsugana bike path is known for its 'Bicigrills'. These offer convenient services such as refreshments, meals, and bike repair assistance. It's advisable to carry essentials for your ride.
The route typically commences and concludes in Pergine Valsugana. You would generally look for parking facilities in or around Pergine Valsugana to start your ride. Specific parking details for this exact trailhead are not provided, so checking local parking options in Pergine Valsugana is recommended.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to cycle the public roads through the Mocheni Valley. You can enjoy the route freely.
As this is a road cycling route on public roads, dogs are generally permitted if they are safely secured (e.g., in a bike trailer or basket) and adhere to local leash laws and regulations in any towns or stops. Always ensure your dog's safety and comfort, especially on demanding rides.
Yes, this route briefly intersects with several other paths. You'll find sections that overlap with the Via Claudia Augusta, the Cammino del beato Enrico - Tappa 5, and the Via Romea - Part Trentino, among others.
The Mocheni Valley offers a unique blend of challenging road cycling with a rich cultural experience. It's known as an 'enchanted valley' due to its stunning natural beauty and the distinct cultural heritage of the Mocheni people, a German-speaking minority. You'll encounter arduous climbs, breathtaking mountain vistas, and a deep immersion in their traditions and folklore.
On the occasion of the final stage of the Tour of the Alps in Levico Terme, I had the honor and pleasure of cycling together with a small and very select group of personalities and champions including Maurizio Fondriest and Daniel Oss 😊💪. At the end of the ride I witnessed the arrival of the teachers inside the hospitality area. A truly special experience😊😊😊
Today I drove the Fersental Tour counter-clockwise. Even though I was so excited about the descent last time, it's so much nicer to ride. The small road winds up towards the end of the valley, there is hardly any traffic. The last few kilometers of the climb even allow you to shift up a gear. TOP tour 👍 and bye Levico. 🥲
Valle dei Mocheni - Of the three routes to reach it, the "cycle path" is probably the steepest, with gradients of up to 20. It is a long straight road with almost no hairpin bends.
