This route was planned by komoot.
The trail is generally rated as an S2 on the Singletrack Scale, considered 'Blue' or 'Medium' difficulty, making it an advanced flow trail. However, some newer technical sections, especially near the suspension bridge, can reach S3 or even S4 difficulty. It requires good riding technique, particularly for obstacles like larger stones, roots, and tight switchbacks.
You'll find a varied and engaging terrain with long, flowing passages, often winding through forest floors. Expect technical features like berms, jumps, rock gardens, and rollers. There are also more challenging stone passages, roots, and steep turns. Some sections can be rocky, dusty, and potentially slippery when dry.
The route is approximately 20.7 kilometers (12.9 miles) long and typically takes around 2 hours and 47 minutes to complete by mountain bike.
The trail offers fantastic panoramic views of Monte Tramontana and the surrounding mountain peaks and glaciers, especially from the cultural landscape of Val Venosta's Sun Mountain. You'll also pass by Castel Annenberg and a View of the Vinschgau and Martell valleys from St. Martin am Kofel.
The trail is accessible almost all year round, offering flexibility for your visit. Conditions can vary, so it's always good to check local weather before heading out.
While the trail is generally open to the public, it's always recommended to keep dogs on a leash, especially in sections designated for sharing with hikers. This ensures safety and respect for all trail users and local wildlife.
No specific permits or entrance fees are typically required to access the Sunny Benny Trail, as it is a public trail.
Yes, there are sections designated as 'Share the Trail'. In these areas, mountain bikers are expected to show consideration for hikers, who have the right of way. Always ride responsibly and be mindful of other users.
Specific parking information is not detailed in the trail data, but for trails of this nature, parking is typically available at or near common access points in nearby towns like Latsch or Goldrain. Look for designated trailheads or public parking areas.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the Montesole Trail (Sunny Benny), Tschilli Trail, Goldrainer Panoramaweg - Sentiero panoramico di Coldrano, and Jakobsweg Laas - Cammino di San Giacomo Lasa.
Yes, since 2019, a new, very technical and steep section, rated S3 to S4, has been added near the suspension bridge. These parts require advanced riding skills and careful navigation.
Hi everyone, Our first tour of our Easter holiday in beautiful Vinschgau started from Goldrain up to the Flipsi Trails (formerly the Propain Trail). Since the weather wasn't that sunny yet, unfortunately, there aren't many photos. However, you can find plenty of photos in my other tours in the Vinschgau Collection. We always find the Propain great for rolling in and getting used to the terrain. With the eMTB, you can also pedal up the road in a relaxed manner. The downhill was a lot of fun, with the trail repeatedly crossing the road. We skipped the last section, where you have to push your bike through a biotope, because we wanted to continue on to the Annaberg Uphill and Sunny Benny, and we wanted to conserve battery life. We really like the uphill, even though it has some very steep sections. The last section up to Sunny Benny is on the quiet road. At the top, you could still clearly see the traces of the forest fire and even smell something. There weren't any oak processionary moths visible on the road or trail, so we thought they might have disappeared due to the heavy rain. The trail is simply beautiful to ride, and we would have loved to do it again. Unfortunately, I got a rash after the tour and didn't dare go up again. Anyone who doesn't want to get rash should do their rounds later in the year, or, like us, skip Sunny Benny until there's a possible eradication effort. It was still a great first tour, and we had a blast! Do the caterpillars scare you away, or do they not bother you? 🐛 Best wishes, Jani
On the 2nd trail (Monte Sole) I probably took the wrong turn and drove off a road in the lower part
What I'm taking away from today: Elbows and knees pointing outwards. Approach hairpin bends on the outside, turn my head, and look far ahead. 👀
