(1) Generally, it is recommended to do the circular route counterclockwise. The reason for this is that the ascent to Mulhacén is smoother and therefore more pleasant this way. The ascent can be divided into two sections: first, the path from Trevélez to the Siete Lagunas, followed by the further ascent from there up to Mulhacén. The first section to the Siete Lagunas follows well-maintained paths that repeatedly cross small streams. Along the way, you will find the Refugio Vivac de la Campiñuela, a shelter where you can rest or, if necessary, spend the night. After a steady but moderate ascent, you finally reach the Siete Lagunas, a group of small mountain lagoons.
After a hot and exhausting day in Granada yesterday and another night of bad sleep (you shouldn't book a house without air conditioning in the Andusian hinterland... 🙄) today we went to Mulhacén, the highest peak in mainland Spain. There are two ways to get there: very comfortably with the park administration's shuttle minibus from Capileira up to 2700m. To the summit it is then less than 800m on very easy and not steep paths. Or on foot from Trevélez, which is about 2000m, although here the paths are easy, except for the variant via the Siete Lagunas, but they are long. The tour is very scenic and also lonely. I only met a few shuttle people at the summit. Griffon vultures and eagles were circling on the way up. Later, after the Siete Lagunas, there were lots of ibexes. From the Siete Lagunas there are no more markings and finding the way after the lakes is not easy. Only now and then a cairn in the rubble and boulder area. Here a feeling for
