Park Head Pass Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

From a mountain biking perspective, this is a perfectly acceptable, challenging climb when run north to south, but it's much more fun run south to north. It's the sort of trail that gives lie to the notion that only singletrack makes for challenging riding. It's an absolute technical blast; highly recommended.

Newfield Inn

Highlight • Pub

An excellent pub at the bottom of two fantastic descents - the Park Head Rode from Stephenson Ground, and the Walna Scar road from Coniston.

The pub has a couple of rooms available, does a fine line in food, and the beer is excellent. Don't drink too many though - whichever way you've come from, you've got a hell of a climb back out.

Walna Scar Road

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Recent accusations of sanitation belie the fact that this is still a cracking descent when run west to east.

From the top, it's steep, very rocky and with some tight switchbacks. It's straightforward enough when taken slowly, but line choice is critical.

Further down, the trail opens up and becomes less steep and disconcertingly fast - so watch your speed, especially on busier days. It goes without saying that the views are exceptional!

Quarry Waterfall Descent, Lake District

Highlight (Segment) • Waterfall

The track starts off steep and grassy down to a boggy stream crossing. After that you are treated to a brilliant technical decent through a disused quarry with great views of Coniston Water.

After a pair of gates, watch out for the sheep as you fly down some gentle rocky double track to the A593, conveniently near to two fantastic pubs.

Absolutely brutal climb upto Walna Scar summit, pushed for around 45 mins as the trail is so steep and rocky. But the descent down into Coniston is well worth it 😁
