View of Gormire Lake from Sutton Bank

Highlight • Viewpoint

High on Whitestone Cliff, on part of the classic Cleveland Way trail, you are rewarded with spectacular views over Gormire Lake and miles beyond. If you are exploring Garbutt Wood Nature Reserve and the lake from below, it's worth a stroll to the cliff tops for the views. You won’t regret it.

This is the point where you can turn right for the longer Fort route (blue) and Paradise trail (red), or turn sharp left to head back to the visitor centre and car park on the shorter blue loop. It's well worth pausing here a while because the views to the east are absolutely incredible.

If you're following bridleways rather than the marked cycle routes, there's a handy fingerpost here with directions.

Steep Descent in North York Moors National Park

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Starts with a steep chute down for about 20m but then a sharp right with little to nothing from stopping you going straight on down into the ferns. Trail then tracks to the right. Very little margin for error especially when slightly over grown. Very fun but not recommended for beginners

Gallow Hill Descent

Highlight • Viewpoint

Brilliant descent across open moorland, especially fantastic in August when the purple heather is in bloom.

After passing through the top gate and turning left, a short pedal leads you to the descent proper; rutted, rough and ruddy wonderful!

It gets pretty gravelly in the middle, be aware!
