Trail Reviews

En roue vers l’aventure
June 9, 2023, Rando pluie : le Mont Mezenc

Literally in the clouds (with a good wind as a bonus), so I felt more like climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland than a peak in the Massif Central. The view at the top was magnificent….obviously blocked. It was more for going out than anything else since in these conditions, the bike clearly remains in the garage!

Mont Mézenc is the highest point on the eastern edge of the Massif Central, the third peak of the latter behind Sancy and Cantal. It is also the highest point of the departments of Haute-Loire (43) and Ardèche (07). In terms of geology, it is a phonolite device dated around 7.5 Ma among many others in the Velay, located to the northwest of the Cirque des Boutières. Phonolite is a felsic volcanic rock that produces a clear sound when struck. – Author: Randotesavoie
