Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve

Highlight • Beach

Managed by Scotland’s Nature Agency, Loch Fleet has three interlocking areas: the coastal, beach and sand dune area; the tidal saltwater loch fleet; and the river Fleet and alder marshland. Watch wading birds, seals and seabirds in the tidal area and look out for ospreys and otters upstream.

The Gaelic translation for this is Yellow Loch which may be from the reflection of the surrounding moorland. Anyway, it's a pretty freshwater loch that's about 10m deep at the deepest point.

Loch Migdale

Highlight • Historical Site

This beautiful freshwater loch was the site of a Canadian forestry camp during the second world war. At the western end there is an Iron Age Crannog (an artificial or semi artificial island). It's a great place for a break or a wild camp.
