This route was planned by komoot.
Very nice and varied route. The first part is very tiring, with almost 700 meters of difference in altitude. But the effort is rewarded by the arrival at the lake and the long subsequent descent. In addition to the very beautiful and wild panoramas, the Bardoney valley is also very beautiful.
The climb to the lake is steep but practically all in the woods. The lake is very beautiful and not very cold at least in August. From the lake you climb a little more and then go down to Bardoney where there are some farmhouses in a large meadow and a beautiful view of the valley. On the way back you go along the stream and after the first stretch, the path is all in the woods again. We did not find any sources.
Very beautiful hike to Lago Loie and further. We did the trip counter-clockwise so you get the very steep section right at the beginning from the waterfall.
Wonderful tour, which I came to through the photos of Komoot user Bas Linssen (his tour here https://www.komoot.de/tour/270285060). During the ascent, in places I concentrated more on the path than on the view - although the route is classified with an E and therefore does not require a head for heights, I felt a bit queasy at times. From Alp Loie onwards, everything was no longer a problem, as this is where the plateaus begin. From Lillaz to the Alp, the path usually leads through the forest and from Bardoney back to Lillaz again. Today I was happy to be able to do a large part of the descent in the halfway cool forest, because it was a pretty hot day. As soon as you climb up, a sign indicates that you have to make a detour at Bouc. The farmer there sent us back and said we could take the cordoned-off route. We are then next to the barrier across the meadow to the bridge, which was easy. And I was also happy not to have to take another detour in this heat. If you have problems with your knees, you should consider doing the tour in the other direction. Because the descent is relatively gentle, but very long and with a lot of stones towards the end.
A varied hike on very good paths and varied nature. Sturdy shoes and good windproof clothing are an advantage. The way back is a bit longer, but not as steep. We were lucky and even saw marmots.
Gran Paradiso - the Ne is the name of the game. Mountains, water, pure nature. Everything is fantastic. The tour has a tough climb, but it's more than worth it. The Grand Paradiso National Park is on the agenda! 🏔️ 🥾
Monday 20 June: Today a repeat of one of the tours from October 2020: https://www.komoot.nl/tour/270285060?ref=aso The route starts with a steep, long climb. Then you gradually descend back to the village.
Holiday in the Aosta Valley and after a week of high-altitude touring, things were supposed to be more relaxed this Sunday. Well... it didn't work out but it was nice. The starting point of our tour was Lillaz in the valley of Cogne. From here we chose a path that led us past the waterfalls and up into a high valley. Right from the start we were amazed by the larch forests and the colorful meadows. Somewhere the waterfall roared while we, and especially the dog, were thirsting for some cooling. This continued uphill. A stream ran along the path and helped us to cool off. Passing small farms, we crossed a small dam, behind which it became more impassable. Rocks and roots, stairs and ladders for a steeper path. The forest thinned out and revealed an arena of rocky peaks. The meadows lay beautifully on the slopes. Up in the distance, an enormous waterfall found enough material to plunge into the depths. A smaller "model" followed suit, splashing, drawing its water from a pool, which in turn drew water from small streams that flowed towards it from all directions. Here I missed the turnoff to an abandoned place that was buried a little deeper in the high valley. I looked at it from above, because a few meters in altitude separated us from the top of the pass and the small lake behind it, which was green and refreshing and invited us to take a quick dip. Here we were at the climax of the hike, before we quickly went downhill. Carefully over hill and dale, we reached the magnificent waterfalls just before Lillaz, which in turn flowed into pools that also had to be used for a dip. The glacier water was even more refreshing than the mountain water from the lake. The perfect pick-me-up before heading back to Aosta. Conclusion: Do it!!!
