This hike, which is almost nine kilometers long, combines pleasure and history. On your way to Windeck Castle you will have beautiful views on wonderful hiking trails. Arrived at the castle ruins, you travel back to the Middle Ages - imagine what the walls could tell.
It starts in Kappelwindeck, a district of Bühl. You leave the place quickly and gradually gain altitude - and visibility. Soon you will see the walls of Windeck Castle rising up. Once at the top, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Rhine plain and further to the Vosges. The path is particularly beautiful on an early autumn morning: first the castle ruins are still in the haze of the early morning fog, before the sun breaks through and gives you a view into the distance. Did the lords of the castle appreciate this natural spectacle?
If you have enjoyed the view enough, it goes back down into the valley. The path takes you on a fairly straight route back to Kappelwindeck.
