Hiking

Exploring the mystical valley of the Wilden Sasbach is a natural adventure for children: moss-covered stones, small bridges and the gurgling brook promise fun for little hikers. It starts at the hiking car park at the Straubenhöfmühle, where you can meet alpacas. You walk past the historic mill into the forest and soon reach a rest area with play equipment.

The tour then takes you over numerous bridges and rocks along the Wilden Sasbach - it literally goes over sticks and stones. After almost a kilometer you leave the valley and hike back to the car park on a slightly sloping forest path. There are several places to stop for refreshments nearby, which you can reach by car or bus.

Straubenhof Mill

Highlight • Historical Site

The mill was built in 1789 by farmer Andreas Straub. It replaced a previously standing, but dilapidated, "grinder and sawmill." It operated as a grain mill until 1938. The mill has an overshot waterwheel, powered by the weight of the water from the Sasbach stream.

It was completely renovated inside and out in 1983/84 and 2000/01 and has been fully functional since then. Today, the mill is a listed building and is owned by the municipality of Sasbachwalden.

Perfect place for a break for the whole family. While the parents relax on the bench, the little ones can let off steam on the wooden equipment.

Wilder Sasbach Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

The section along the Wild Sasbach stream is clearly a true natural gem in the Black Forest, appreciated by hikers for its wild, romantic beauty. The 1.5-kilometer trail leads through an idyllic landscape, past bubbling cascades and over seven small bridges crossing the stream. The path, which winds through the gorge, offers a unique nature experience, surrounded by soft forest floor and boulders. It seems to be a perfect place for anyone seeking peace in nature and wanting to experience the picturesque beauty of the Black Forest up close.

This evening, I walked the "Wild Sasbach" stream to make sure everything goes smoothly with my school-age children during the Whitsun holidays. We want to try out our homemade water wheels there and just have fun. It's really beautiful, really doable for every child, and they'll learn something about the forest along the way.
