Hiking
The Monte Stivo Ring Trail offers a moderate hiking experience, guiding you through varied terrain. You will start in peaceful beech and larch woods, then emerge into open pastures where cows often graze. As you climb higher, the path becomes rockier, winding past dwarf pine and rhododendron before reaching the Monte Stivo viewpoint. This 5.3-mile (8.5 km) route involves a significant 2215 feet (675 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking about 4 hours and 5 minutes to complete.
Before you set out, be aware that this trail requires good fitness and sure-footedness, especially on its steeper sections. If you plan to hike during winter or when snow and ice are present, crampons are highly recommended for your safety. The Rifugio Prospero Marchetti, located just below the summit, provides a convenient spot to rest and refuel during your journey.
This loop is a rewarding challenge for hikers seeking expansive views of the region. From the summit, you can enjoy spectacular 360-degree panoramas that include Lake Garda, the Sarca Valley, and the distant Brenta Dolomites. It is a notable route for its diverse ecosystems and the comprehensive vistas it provides of the surrounding alpine landscape.

While specific parking areas are not detailed, popular trails like this typically have designated parking near common starting points. It's advisable to check local maps or komoot's tour details for the most convenient access points, especially as the starting point can vary for this loop.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, please keep your dog on a leash, especially in areas where you might encounter grazing cows and horses in the open pastures. Always carry water for your pet and be mindful of other hikers.
The best time to hike the Monte Stivo – Ring tour is typically from late spring to early autumn. In late May, the meadows burst with wildflowers like peonies and wild tulips. During winter, or when snow and ice are present, the trail requires specialized gear such as crampons for safe hiking.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Climb to Monte Stivo – Ring tour. The trail is freely accessible to the public.
The trail offers diverse terrain. You'll start on accessible paths through beech and larch woods, transitioning to open pastures. As you ascend, the terrain becomes rockier, winding through dwarf pine and rhododendron above the tree-line. Good fitness and sure-footedness are required, especially on steeper sections.
The most notable feature is the Monte Stivo viewpoint, offering spectacular 360-degree views of Lake Garda, the Sarca Valley, and the Brenta Dolomites. You'll also pass the Stivo Prospero Marchetti Mountain Hut, a great resting point, and the Monte Stivo Ridge Trail. Don't miss the View of Lake Garda.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the Sentiero del Coston, Sentiero dei Serbi, Strada forestale della Scaletta, Strada forestale sopra Malga Campo, Strada forestale Malghetta, Strada forestale Mandrie, Sentiero dei "geroni", Strada forestale Crosette 2, and trincea 14-18.
This trail is classified as moderate. While not technically challenging, it requires good fitness due to the elevation gain and duration. Sure-footedness is also necessary for certain sections. It's best suited for trained trekkers rather than absolute beginners.
Yes, the Stivo Prospero Marchetti Mountain Hut is located just below the summit. It serves as a crucial base and resting point, offering an opportunity to break and enjoy the scenery. You might also encounter Malga Campo earlier on the route.
Given the moderate difficulty and varied terrain, pack appropriate hiking boots, layers of clothing suitable for changing mountain weather, water, snacks, and sun protection. If hiking in colder months or when snow is possible, crampons are highly recommended.
Make sure to spend some time at the Stivo Prospero Marchetti Mountain Hut. There's an observation point nearby that helps identify all the surrounding peaks visible from the summit, enhancing your panoramic experience.
This strenuous tour is definitely not of moderate difficulty. Some parts of it are only recommended with sturdy footwear and a head for heights. The descent on this tour is also not good for your back or knees.
Mystical and atmospheric autumn hike. It's hard to believe that this tour takes place within sight of Lake Garda at over 2000 meters. https://bergparadiese.de/wandel-von-der-malga-campo-zum-monte-stivo
Anello "Monte Stivo da M.ga Campo" Trek Malga Campo - Madonnina - Cima Stivo - Malga Campo Yesterday was tough, with deep snow and fog for a good part of the way before the summit, but then the sky opened up and gave us some beautiful images, finally accompanying us with the sun for the whole way back 😃☀ We chose the trio to start from the north to limit the difference in altitude, fearing that there would be a lot of snow. And so it was in fact. By car you can get up to a certain point, because in winter the road to Malga Campo is closed. But in a short time the asphalt ends, the woods stop and the adventure begins. From Malga Campo you head for the ridge that from Cima Alta precedes the Stivo; you then continue south, on the edge of the Adige Valley, and you reach the summit. You begin the return by touching the Refuge and continuing east always on the ridge, until you return to the woods and reach the starting point. Along with Altissimo, Colma, the peaks of Baldo, Pizzocolo and Cima Comer, Stivo is an absolute must-see to experience the beauty of the entire Garda seen this time from the north. Be careful because the snow is high these days, and snowshoes, poles and good boots are a must. If it freezes, crampons too.
A very nice circular route over Monte Stivo. We wanted to watch the setting sun from the Riffugio Marchetti but unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate.
Rain and thunderstorms forced us to abandon the climb shortly before the summit.🥲.
10:20 Departure from Malga Campo 11:00 La Bass's Madonnina 12:00 Monte Stivo, break at Refugio Mt. Stivo 13:40 descent 15:15 Arrival
A great hike from the hiker's parking lot at 1,300 meters. It starts off relatively pleasantly, but then continues over the ridge to the summit with magnificent views. The ascent is quite alpine and requires a certain level of fitness and surefootedness. This is an alpine hiking trail. Sturdy footwear is required. The same applies to the descent.
The road to Malga Campo is a bit narrow, we recommend arriving early in the morning. The climb is easy and beautiful. The section after the refuge has steps and seems to be little frequented. We recommend being careful... Nice ride.
