Hiking

A city hike that couldn't be more beautiful and rightly bears the distinction of being a quality trail. It connects the wonderfully green corners of Ettlingen with the historic and vibrant old town.

Horbach Park, with its wide meadows, idyllic stream, and flowering trees and shrubs in summer, invites you to take a stroll or take a break from everyday life, captivating not only Ettlingen's residents.

Ettlingen's old town is just a stone's throw from the park. Of course, a quick detour to the beautiful castle is a must before exploring the lively streets with cafés and restaurants around the market square.

You'll get a change of perspective at the Bismarck Tower. It towers above the town and offers a magnificent view. Here, the Black Forest merges into the Rhine plain, Karlsruhe is right next door, and in the distance, you can see the Vosges Mountains and the Palatinate Forest.

There's always something going on here in the park. There are plenty of seating options, especially next to the lake, as well as several playgrounds.

Ettlingen Palace

Highlight • Castle

Ettlingen Castle is the vibrant, cultural, and social center of the town. In summer, the Castle Festival attracts thousands of visitors to the theater and musicals in the castle courtyard. The castle's most beautiful hall is the Asam Hall, which, thanks to its excellent acoustics, has become one of the region's most popular concert halls.

Throughout the year, the Ettlingen Museum presents stimulating interactive exhibitions on regional art and cultural history, as well as urban archaeology. An extensive program of expert guided tours guarantees an eventful stay with explorations through the historic old town, the castle, and the museums.

Ettlingen Castle dates back to a medieval castle, which was converted into a prestigious Renaissance complex in the 16th century. The castle acquired its Baroque appearance under the reign of Margravine Sybilla Augusta of Baden, who moved her retirement home to Ettlingen in 1727. The impressive paintings in the castle chapel (now the Asam Hall) were created by the famous fresco painter Cosmas Damian Asam.

May 5, 2022,Ettlingen: "Stadt, Wald, Fluss" [Qualitätsweg - stadtwanderung]
Target group: urban hikers who want to discover the most beautiful corners of Ettlingen (on asphalt, gravel, etc.) and combine this with a beautiful forest path in sections.

"Starting point of the tour is the Albgaubad stop or the parking lot there. From here you follow the hiking trail to the southwest to the Horbachtal. Then the path leads along …

Actually, the weather wasn't that good for today, so we chose a small round in Ettlingen. Namely the quality trail "City, Forest, River". The starting point of our tour was the free parking lot at the Freibad-Albgaubad.

Very nice little city walk 😊 Nice town, a bit of green and a view 🥰 I liked it 👍

Today it was freezing cold. But a little fresh air doesn't do any harm. So today we chose a nice little walk in Ettlingen. First we went up to the Bismarck Tower. When we got there we were lucky and the sun came out. That meant we had a great atmosphere. We then finished off at the local Christmas market.

why not go for a hike half through the city and half in nature, we thought, but unfortunately this tour is not recommended as a hike.

Today I was just on a nice little walk with a couple of friends. But nice to come out in the slightly drizzly weather: it was very relaxed 🙂

My optimized version of the “Quality Trail City, Forest, River” with a starting point at the castle and incorporating the beautiful part of the Panorama Trail.
If you follow the original route, you will miss the best views.
