Trail Reviews

Francesca Lo Monaco 🇮🇹🇵🇹👣🚲🌈🌀
June 26, 2025, Giro "GRAB-GRAVEL" da Appio Latino 🐺🏟🚲🇮🇹

Wonderful training ride in anticipation of my departure for the Periplo della Sardegna alone. Almost entirely gravel this outing in the beautiful "Eternal City", my city ♥️ The return on a section of the Tiber cycle path, showed me a Tiber so "low", never seen before with so many baby seagulls. A powerful heat🌞 but the satisfaction was greater‼️🚲😀

Route defined on bikeitalia and on Komoot but without any markings. Some work zones are preventing it from taking place, in particular the long part on the bank of the Tiber, which is inaccessible. The merit of this route is to connect the green lungs of the city, but apart from that, it is not of great interest.

An extraordinary journey to discover an unexpected Rome. The route starts and arrives at Ponte Milvio and crosses the most important parks of the city along the Tiber and Aniene rivers, using both asphalted and dirt cycle paths. The first stretch of the Tiber cycle path is followed and then headed towards Villa Borghese, the Zoo, Piazza Hungary (Parioli). Continue through Villa Ada (Salaria) to the small lake and then take the cycle path of the Aniene Valley (Prato della Signora). You meet the De Simone Park (Nomentana) and then the Serenissima Park (Tiburtina). Follows the Gordiani Park (Prenestina) and Villa De Santis (Casilina) and then arrives at the Parco degli Acquedotti (Tuscolana). After having traveled a beautiful ring along the aqueduct structures, we proceed towards the Caffarella Park (Appia) of particular beauty. You then skirt the Baths of Caracalla and the Circus Maximus and then take the Tiber cycle path at the Ponte Sublicio in Porta Portese (Portuense). The return is all along the bank of the Tiber up to Ponte Milvio.

Rome's tourist attractions are completely overrun with people; cycling is impossible. There's dirt everywhere, and the steps down to the Tiber reek of urine. You have to carry your bike up and down the stairs. Bike paths are practically nonexistent; they simply end abruptly, for example, you might find yourself facing a locked gate. GRAB is not recommended. We were extremely disappointed. Rome has a huge number of sights, but the areas to the right and left of them are dirty and disappointing. The GRAB tour shows the negative side of Rome. We were very disappointed and only give the tour one star :-(.
