Readers of Wandermagazin (Germany’s premier hiking publication) named the HeimatSpur Waterfall Adventure Trail Germany’s most beautiful hiking trail in 2023 🏆

This is a challenging hike to the highest waterfall in the Eifel: Klidinger Waterfall, which plunges an impressive 28 meters (92 ft) – a stunning natural spectacle. Nestled in the wild and romantic landscape of the Erdenbach Valley and its side valleys, you’ll discover plenty of other highlights along the way. At the Hohenzollern Tower, a superb panorama awaits, encompassing the village in the valley below and the Eifelhöhen.

Passing Kennfus, the trail continues to the Falkenlay nature reserve. After the fascinating vista from the Falkenlay viewpoint, the next spectacular highlight awaits, the Steinzeithöhlen (Stone Age Caves).

On the final stretch, you’ll discover the natural, evergreen boxwood of the Palmberg, an enchanting place to explore. It’s also worth checking out Bad Bertrich’s spa gardens and the Kursaal cultural centre while you’re in the area.

Here you can take a great break with a wonderful view. The backpack should of course be filled accordingly.

Bismarck Tower, Bad Bertrich

Highlight • Monument

The construction of the 14 meter high Bismarck Tower was realized through a large fundraising campaign in 1908. The cornerstone was laid in the same year. Two years later the tower was completed and inaugurated. A spiral staircase leads up to the viewing platform. However, it is possible that it is blocked due to corruption.

Klidinger Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

It crosses the creek over two makeshift, relatively thin tree trunks. Then the adventure begins. You walk and later you climb steeply up the mountain to the point where the water falls down. If you go further, you come to a beautiful vantage point. The view down the waterfall, which makes a mighty roar there, is really great! You can secure yourself using taut ropes, but you should still wear good shoes and be sure-footed!

Falkenlay Stone Shelter and Viewpoint

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Very nice old stone shelter. In front of the refuge there is a bench that is well suited for a short breather or a picnic. A little below there is a very nice viewing platform.

Falkenlay Stone Age Caves

Highlight • Cave

Here in the volcanic rock of the Falkenlay, there are some smaller "caves". Some interesting finds show that these caves were probably inhabited by Stone Age hunters between 2000 and 4000 BC.

I am thrilled about this spring with a hut and barbecue, especially about the new "mash drink machine" from the Kennfus Volunteer Fire Department. The firefighters know the dangers in the dry forest and are firefighting experts. Thank you very much for the delicious refreshment.

Viewpoint on the Palmberg

Highlight • Viewpoint

A wonderful view of the town of Bad Bertrich. However, this view is like a peephole, as the hiking trail is surrounded by dense vegetation on both sides – almost like in the jungle. Worth highlighting here is the evergreen boxwood (Buxus sempervirens), a heat-loving species that grows and thrives particularly well here on the southern slopes. In common parlance, this tree is also called „Palm“ and, according to legend, was brought here by the Romans. Due to this peculiarity, the Palm forest has been designated a natural monument.

I did this great circular hike with my little dog today (05/26/23) - fantastic! The crossings over streams and exposed path sections in the direction of the waterfall are now firmly secured with bars and ropes. Tip: there is a sunny resting place with a great view above the waterfall in the direction

Sandra 🥾🚴‍♀️
October 1, 2023, Bad Bertrich - HeimatSpur Wasserfalltour + Engelsgrotte

I'm traveling in new areas again. Today I met up with a hiking buddy in Bad Bertrich to walk Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2023 (https://www.die-schoensten-wanderwege.de/touren/rheinland-pfalz/heimatspur-wasserfall-erlebnisroute.html). From the East parking lot (unfortunately not free) we went straight up a steep hill to the Hohenzollern Tower. From there, as from many other places on the tour, you have a great view. From there we continued along forest paths to the Klidinger waterfall. You can get there via a small climbing passage. Another highlight are the Stone Age caves. You will be rewarded at the Maischquelle before the descent to Bad Bertrich. Refreshments are waiting for you there. At the end we took a detour to the Angel's Grotto before finishing the tour with a delicious ice cream.

Our waterfall adventure route starts in Bad Bertrich. From the car park, it goes straight uphill on narrow rocky paths. Always keeping the town in view on the left. On the way, we had a few highlights such as the Bismarck Tower (which was unfortunately closed), the Hohenzollern Tower and the absolute highlight: the waterfall, which had plenty of water due to the constant rain of the last few weeks 😍 but even there it was only a steep uphill climb. From the waterfall onwards, there was little to see. It only got a bit more exciting from Kennfus onwards. That was the part when we were already on the way back to Bertrich. All in all, a very nice tour, but I wouldn't have given this route the name "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail". You should have a good level of fitness and sturdy shoes. It was very strenuous in places

A demanding hike to the highest waterfall in the Eifel. The way out of the town leads through the pedestrian zone of Bad Bertrich. At the Hohenzollern Tower, a fantastic view of the village in the valley and the Eifel hills awaits. Embedded in the wildly romantic landscape of the Erdenbach valley with its side valleys, the route leads to the Klidinger waterfall. The highest waterfall in the Eifel plunges 28 meters down - a true natural spectacle! Passing the outskirts of Kennfus, it goes to the Falkenlay nature reserve. On the last section of the path, the naturally grown boxwood of the Palmbergsg forms a canopy of leaves over the path and creates an enchanted hiking atmosphere. In addition to the fairytale surroundings of the Klidinger waterfall, numerous other scenic highlights await.

Completely rightly voted "most beautiful hiking trail 2023". The trail also offers plenty of shade and frequent opportunities to cool off in streams - making it a great hike even on hot days like yesterday!

Translated by Google

The Kliding Waterfall, a natural spectacle, presented a truly impressive sight after the recent rains; the Erdenbach stream was also carrying enormous volumes of water. We had previously only visited the waterfall from Kliding and Beuren, which, while requiring considerably less scrambling, meant missing out on the faded charm of the spa town of Bad Bertrich, which flourished in the 1970s.

Germany's most beautiful hiking trail 2023, 569 meters altitude according to the description!

I have decided to walk the most beautiful hiking trail in 2023. The nice thing is that there is a parking deck not far from the starting point, which makes it easier to find a parking space. The route is beautiful and sometimes challenging. You have a beautiful view over Bad Bertrich and thanks to the Kennfus fire department there is a great station that invites you to take a drink break. But the bottom line is that it is a beautiful hiking trail without any major highlights.

A fantastic hike through the Erdenbachtal and its side valleys to the Klidinger waterfall, the highest in the Eifel at 28m. The highlights were the amazing viewpoints and oases of peace and the Maschquelle. And of course the amazing volcanic rock formations. 💯
