The full Corona di Delizie – ring tour is approximately 90-91 km (about 56 miles) long. While the actual cycling time is around 6-7 hours, most people plan for a full day or even two days to allow for stops at the various historical sites and to enjoy the scenery. Your pace will depend on your fitness level and how many stops you make.
Due to the varied surfaces, which include paved sections, cycle paths, low-traffic roads, compacted gravel, unpaved segments, and even cobblestones, a touring bike or a mountain bike is highly recommended. These bikes offer the versatility and comfort needed to handle the different terrains effectively.
As a ring route, you can start and finish at any point along the trail. Many cyclists choose to begin near Turin, which offers various parking facilities. Specific parking information is best checked locally or through resources like Visit Piemonte or Bike Tour Italia for up-to-date details.
Yes, the route is well-integrated with public transport. Several train stations are located along the route, including Collegno, Moncalieri, Settimo, Borgaro, Venaria, and Turin. This makes it convenient to do partial rides or use the train for returns, offering great flexibility.
While the overall elevation gain is relatively low, the length of the trail (90-91 km) makes it a moderately challenging ride. Some sections are unpaved or have cobblestones, which can be difficult for less experienced cyclists. For beginners or families with young children, it's advisable to tackle shorter segments of the tour rather than the entire ring, utilizing the public transport options to customize your ride.
The terrain is largely flat, especially along the Po River, with some modest elevation changes. The surface is quite varied: about 45.4 km are asphalt, 19.8 km are paved, 16.3 km are compacted gravel, 14.8 km are unpaved, and 4.03 km are cobblestones. This mix provides a diverse cycling experience.
The tour connects numerous Royal Savoy Residences, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, forming a 'crown' around Turin. Highlights include the Stupinigi Hunting Lodge, Orsini Counts' Castle of Rivalta, and Rivoli Castle and Panoramic View of Turin. You'll also pass through beautiful natural areas like Valentino Park and along the Tree-Lined Cycle Path Along the Po River.
The trail can be enjoyed for much of the year. Spring and autumn generally offer the most pleasant temperatures for cycling, avoiding the heat of summer and the colder, potentially wetter conditions of winter. These seasons also provide beautiful natural scenery.
While specific regulations for dogs directly on the cycling path are not detailed, generally, dogs on a leash are permitted in public parks and on cycle paths in Italy. However, access to specific historical sites or buildings along the route may be restricted. Always check individual site policies if you plan to enter attractions with your dog.
No special permits are required to cycle the Corona di Delizie – ring tour itself, as it uses public roads and cycle paths. However, if you plan to visit the interiors of the Royal Savoy Residences or other attractions along the route, these will typically have their own entrance fees.
Yes, the route passes through several towns and urban areas, offering opportunities for refreshments and meals. You'll find cafes and restaurants, particularly near the larger towns and attractions. There's even a dedicated Bicigrill Bike Workshop — Sangone Park, which can be a convenient stop for bike services or a quick break.
Yes, the Corona di Delizie – ring tour is well-integrated into the local cycling network. The route itself covers 94% of the official 'Corona di Delizie' trail and also intersects with sections of other well-known paths such as the Aida, Ciclovia Pedemontana Alpina, and the EuroVelo 8 - Mediterranean Route.
🚴♀️Green crown 2023. Also this year we were crowned 👑 King Luigi, 👑 King Mimmo, 👑 King Beppe, 👑 King Mario and 👑 King Paolo. Carlo would have come but he's still without 👑. It will be for next year😀😀🚴
Beautiful ride done with BDC (at the limit) recommended in gravel / MTB. https://www.bicitalia.org/it/percorsi/89-corona-di-delizie
Vertical drop always out of control. In reality they are 400 and a few meters. Spectacular ride, almost all on cycle paths, dirt roads over meadows, pebbles, parks, paths. Even the itinerary passes in the center of Turin on cycle paths, which are well-traveled, even if in rather busy stretches.
