This route was planned by komoot.
The recommended starting point for this loop is
Platja del Castell, where you'll find ample parking. You can also begin the route from Cap Roig, but Platja del Castell is generally more convenient for parking.
The terrain is quite varied, offering a mix of coastal paths and elevated sections through pine forests. You'll walk along rugged coastlines, past dramatic cliffs, and through natural coves. Expect continuous ups and downs and some uneven, narrow paths, requiring sure-footedness in places.
This loop is generally categorized as a moderate hike. While many paths are accessible, it does require a good level of fitness due to continuous ascents and descents and some uneven sections. Beginners with a reasonable fitness level should be fine, but be prepared for a few challenging parts.
You'll encounter stunning natural beauty, including pristine coves like Cala del Crit, Estreta Cove, and Corbs Cove. The route also passes by the unique rock formation of Sa Foradada of Castell and offers panoramic views from elevated sections. You'll also pass near the Cap Roig Botanical Gardens and Dalí's Cabin.
While many sections of the Camí de Ronda are dog-friendly, it's always best to keep your dog on a leash, especially given the varied terrain and potential for wildlife. Please be mindful of other hikers and any specific local regulations within the natural interest area.
The Costa Brava offers pleasant hiking conditions for much of the year. Spring (April-May) and Autumn (September-October) are ideal, with comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer can be hot, but early mornings or late afternoons are still enjoyable, especially with opportunities for swimming in the coves.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike this section of the Camí de Ronda. The trail is located within the Espai d'Interès Natural de Castell-Cap Roig, a protected natural area, but public access to the paths is free.
Yes, this loop utilizes and intersects with several other official trails. A significant portion of the route follows the main Camí de Ronda path, and it also includes sections of the Mont-ras, cales i platges verges and the long-distance GR 92 trails.
Absolutely! One of the highlights of this trail is the chance to pause and swim in the clear waters of the secluded coves you'll pass, such as Cala dels Canyers, Cala Corbs, Cala Estreta, and Cala Crit. Platja del Castell, where the loop often starts, is also a beautiful unspoiled beach perfect for a dip.
While the trail itself focuses on natural beauty, you'll find some amenities near the starting points. Platja del Castell typically has seasonal services, and as you approach Cap Roig and Cala El Golfet, there are more developed areas where you might find cafes or restaurants, especially during peak season.
The loop can generally be completed in about 3 hours of active hiking. However, to fully enjoy the stunning scenery, take photos, and perhaps swim in the coves, it's advisable to allocate additional time, making it a half-day or full-day excursion.
Wow, what a beautiful walk and beautiful bays/beaches. A few parts of the hike were quite tough, but all worth it.
This walk is marked as "easy", but we (both 65+) certainly did not find it that way. Rocky paths with loose rocks, up and down, partly through the loose sand of the beach, considerable differences in height, all in all it is desirable that you are good on your feet (walking sticks are not an unnecessary luxury) and have a reasonable level of fitness. If that is the case, then it is recommended. Both in terms of walking experience and in terms of beautiful pictures.
Tour was very nice but is only recommended for people with surefootedness and fitness. The classification “moderately difficult” is more likely to be seen in the upper third. Paths are rather difficult to walk on.
The gardens need to be open - in Jan they weren't so we had to go round the side. The coastal path was blocked by high tides/strong waves so we had to back track.
Great tour! Only the entrance is confusing, because contrary to the description you cannot enter through the botanical garden, but have to go around it. Attention! No admission charge! The tour starts to the right of the entrance
The sea 🌊 always attracts us all. The deep blue seems endless to the horizon. We walk from the botanical garden 🪴 near Calella de Palafrugell to the Balearic Sea, Cap Roig.
We wanted to spend the last day of our departure near the airport on the Costa Brava. Yesterday evening we were looking for a sunrise spot and then it happened, I fell on the beach promenade and so we had to cut the plans for the last day quite short. Instead of a long route tour, we started a small circular tour, which we had to cut short 😳 and swimming in every bay was also out of the question for me because of my swollen and open knee. The circular tour itself was beautiful. On the way there we followed the Cami de Ronda, which took us past beautiful sandy bays and we went back via the GR 92. Then we explored the botanical garden of Calella de Palafrugell before we ended our tour at the Playa del Golfet beach. A dream, even if a bit crowded, but it is also very close to the city. Conclusion: the holiday was a dream. We saw a lot. Torla Ordesa impressed me a lot. Our alternative program due to the large amount of snow definitely had nothing to hide. The lake tour in the Catalan Alps (also shorter than officially due to the lack of availability of the hut) also whetted our appetite for more. The detour to Nuria - a dream in broom yellow. And today rounded off the vacation perfectly. Best wishes from Spain.
