This route was planned by komoot.
The starting point for this loop is often flexible, as it's an 'anello' (loop). While the specific trailhead isn't detailed, many routes in the Ticino Park offer parking near popular access points or villages along the river. It's advisable to check the komoot tour map for suggested starting locations and nearby parking facilities.
Yes, the Ticino Park generally welcomes dogs, but they must be kept on a leash at all times to protect the local wildlife and ensure the safety of other park users. Please remember to clean up after your pet.
The best time to ride is typically during spring and autumn when the weather is mild and the natural scenery is at its most vibrant. Summer can be enjoyable, but be prepared for higher temperatures. Winter riding is possible, but some sections might be muddy or less accessible depending on recent rainfall or snow.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to access the trails within the Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino. It is a public park, but visitors are expected to respect park regulations, such as staying on marked trails and protecting the natural environment.
This route is rated as 'moderate' difficulty. While many trails in the Ticino Park are suitable for beginners and families, this specific loop might include some sections requiring at least minimal mountain biking experience and good fitness. It's generally accessible but offers enough variety to keep experienced riders engaged.
The terrain is varied, predominantly unpaved. You'll encounter simple dirt roads ('sterrate'), white roads ('strade bianche'), and forest roads winding through woods and meadows. There are also sections of singletrack for a more technical challenge. Around 80% of the route is on natural surfaces, with some paved sections connecting different areas.
You'll ride parallel to the beautiful Ticino River, passing through enchanting areas. Highlights include the Narrow Fast Trail in Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino, the Butterfly Trail (Sentiero delle Farfalle), Parco Ticino, and the Wooden Bridge over the Ticino. You'll also cross the Bereguardo Pontoon Bridge and enjoy views of the Ticino River in the Lombardy Park of the Ticino Valley and a Scenic Bend of the Ticino River.
The estimated duration for this mountain bike loop is approximately 3 hours and 38 minutes (13,067 seconds), covering a distance of nearly 47 kilometers. This duration can vary based on your fitness level, speed, and how often you stop to enjoy the scenery.
Yes, this route intersects with several other trails within the extensive network of the Ticino Park. Notable sections include parts of the European Long distance path E1 - part Italy - Lombardy, Dorsale Vigevano-Pavia, Dorsale Sesto Calende-Pavia, and the Gran Giro della Sforzesca, among others. This offers opportunities to extend or modify your ride.
Yes, the route passes through or near small towns and charming old farmhouses ('cascine') where you can often find opportunities for refreshment. The Ex Dogana Austroungarica, now a park center, can also serve as a stop. It's always a good idea to carry some snacks and water, especially on longer rides.
The Ticino Park is known for its rich biodiversity. You might spot various bird species, including herons and kingfishers, along the riverbanks. Mammals like deer, foxes, and badgers also inhabit the area, though they are often more elusive. Keep an eye out for butterflies, especially on trails like the Butterfly Trail (Sentiero delle Farfalle), Parco Ticino.
Very easy ride, but smooth and eventful. On the left bank of the river there are also sections with ups and downs and bends that make driving fun. On the right bank the paths are smooth, and in the midst of vegetation, and on single tracks, they give the impression of hurtling at very high speeds. Along the route you will cross some fords and bridges.
There is a small ford to be made on the west bank of the Ticino about halfway through. The stones are slippery and even large Mtb tires don't hold. You put your foot in the water.
From the bridge of boats towards Vigevano is one of the most beautiful sentiments I have ever seen
Quiet ride starting from the Bereguardo Castle. There is a walk across the river ... of course a bridge could have done it ;-)
simple ride with no appreciable difference in altitude ... you need a little getting used to the 3 hours in the saddle. Drinking fountains in Zelata and Vigevano, refreshment point before the boat bridge.
