"That's my kind of hiking" or something similar is how Josh describes the start of our stage. Instead of hiking seven kilometers along a dusty road, we opt for the ultimate luxury: a taxi ride. At a small parking lot, the driver lets us out a little too early for our liking. So we hike another two and a half kilometers along the road. But we see one marmot after another. At the end of the valley, the path becomes narrower and steeper and we wind our way up the mountain. At midday we reach the Refuge de Bayssellance, where we are fortunately allowed to take our lunch break inside in front of the warm oven. Then there is a long descent to our destination for the day, the Refuge de Oulettes de Gaube. The hut is located in an absolutely picturesque valley and we enjoy the view of the peak of the Vignemale from the terrace of the hut until we are called for dinner.
